Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said at the beginning of his cabinet's meeting on Thursday that easternmost Croatia was braced for the expected record high levels of the Danube and that the competent agencies were taking all necessary measures to offset possible damage.
I believe that Croatia will fare better than other countries in the Danube basin, owing to our preventive measures and owing to the configuration of the area, the premier said in Zagreb.
Osijek Mayor Ivan Vrkic told reporters that the situation in the town was under control with all measures taken to prevent the flooding of the Drava River, a tributary of the Danube.
