The Croatian parliament will not sit next week because of Speaker Boris Sprem's death and a special session on the occasion of Independence Day has been cancelled, parliament said on Sunday.
A book of condolence is expected to be opened in parliament tomorrow.
Sprem, who suffered from multiple myeloma, died at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston early Sunday morning, Central European Time. He was 56.
His body is expected to arrive in Croatia on Wednesday, when parliament is expected to hold a commemoration with his family. The funeral is expected to take place on Thursday, which will be declared a day of mourning.
