The ministry creates a normative framework for concrete cases, Justice Minister Drazen Bosnjakovic said on Tuesday in respondse to questions how much was being done to shed light on the Hypo bank and Daimler fraud cases.

The ministry does not deal with concrete investigations and cases, other bodies do that, he said responding to questions from the press at the launch of a project for the strengthening of inter-agency cooperation in the fight against corruption.

Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said recently that shedding light on the Hypo bank and Daimler cases was imperative for closing the "Judiciary and Fundamental Rights" policy chapter in Croatia's European Union entry talks.

Asked if solving those cases would be crucial for closing the chapter, Bosnjakovic said he did not believe that concrete cases would be important.

"I think it's (important) to see a genuine wish and continuity in the fight against corruption and organised crime as well as the creation of conditions for a functional rule of law... that's crucial for closing Chapter 23."
