Split County Court commenced the trial against Edi Misic (29) from Split charged with the murder of a Mexican tourist, Selene Graciano Macedo (31) in August last year, with the victim's mother and brother Emmanuel, who was with her in Split last year, attending the trial.

Misic pleaded not guilty after being read the charges of murder of Macedo on 22 August 2012 on Marjan Hill overlooking Split.

Selene Macedo's brother testified describing the events of that day.

The father of the defendant Misic, said that when he had seen a photograph of a soccer guernsey in the papers that was shown in connection to the murder, he had asked his son about it but that he had said that it had nothing to do with him.

"When he was arrested, he was assigned an official counsel and he said then that it didn't matter who was to defend him. That was a sign for me that he had nothing to do with that murder", Misic's father testified.

The trial is to continue early June. Misic is still in custody for fear of repeating a similar act and due to the grave circumstances of the crime committed.
