A protest against the Kosovo-Serbia agreement reached in Brussels on Friday concerning Kosovo's participation in regional initiatives, was organised in Pristina on Monday by the parliamentary opposition party - Movement for Self-Determination.

According to the local media, some 1,000 protesters gathered outside the Kosovo government headquarters and another 2,000 outside the City Theatre.

The opposition party announced last week that rallies would be organised in protest against the agreement under which the name of Kosovo will be marked with an asterisk and a footnote, with the opinion of the International Court of Justice that Kosovo's declaration of independence was not in violation of international law, citing UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which the movement considers to be contentious.

The government building has been cordoned off and special police forces arrived at the scene.

Protestors were carrying banners with messages against the Hashim Thaci government, The organisers told the pressed they had collected 15,000 signatures, asking that an urgent parliamentary session be convened to discuss the latest deal in dialogue with Serbia, which according to them is harmful for Kosovo.
