The Split City Council on Thursday agreed to discuss a motion tabled by a Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) councillor to name one of the city's main squares or streets after General Ante Gotovina.

"Such a gesture will not restore the trampled pride of the Croatian people nor will it bring back freedom or redress the injustice done to General Ante Gotovina, the Croatian people and all citizens of Croatia, but it will be a mark of respect for an honest man and commander of the Croatian army and will make it clear that not all Croatian politicians bow down before the forgers of our history in The Hague and Brussels," HSP councillor Luka Roguljic said.

The proposal will be discussed as the last item on the Council's agenda.
