Handball is where Croatia's participation is strongest (30 athletes) with both the women's and the men's national teams participating in this Olympiad.

Croatia's water polo team includes 13 male water polo players and seven other members.

The women's basketball squad with 12 players and six supportive members will represent Croatia for the first time in this event at the Olympic Games.

Sailing is among those most numerous teams with 12 Croatians to compete and being supported by 13 members of their teams.

There will be nine Croatian athletes in the track and field competitions.

Also, five Croatians will compete in the shooting sports, and five Croatians will take part in rowing. Croatia will be represented by four tennis players and also by four table tennis players at the London Games.

Croatia will have its representatives also in swimming, open water swimming, cycling, gymnastics, wrestling, judo, taekwondo, fencing and kayak racing.

Venio Losert, who plays at the goalkeeper position in the men's handball national squad, has been selected as the flag-bearer to lead Croatia's 204-member team at Friday's opening ceremony of the Games. Losert was a member of the Croatian national team that won gold Olympic medals two times: at the 1996 Summer Olympics and at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and his wife Tatjana will visit London on July 26-28, to attend the opening ceremony of the 30th Olympic Games, the President's Office said in a statement on Tuesday. During his stay in London, Josipovic is expected to formally open the premises of the Croatia House and visit Croatian athletes in the Olympic Village. Before the Olympics opening ceremony, Josipovic will attend a reception in Buckingham Palace, to be given by Queen Elisabeth II. The Croatian president is also scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings, the statement said.
