Croatian Alpine skier Ivica Kostelic was eighth in the slalom race at the World Championships in the German mountain resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday, and the new world champion in the discipline is Jean Baptiste Grange of France.

Jens Biggmark of Sweden was second and Manfred Moellg of Italy third.

Kostelic became the world's slalom champion in St. Moritz in 2003, and at this year's world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen he won a bronze in the Super-G event. Kostelic continues to be in the lead in the overall World Cup rankings.
