A wildfire that broke out near Rudine in a wider area of Kastela in the Split hinterland on early Monday afternoon, came close to houses and 120 firefighters are battling the blaze in order to prevent it from spreading to the houses, the local firefighters reported on Monday afternoon.

"The situation is serious," the local firefighters' commander Milivoj Taslak told the press.

Two canadair aircraft and one helicopter were engaged to help the firefighters to contain the blaze, but a wind was making the situation more difficult for them.

Another wildfire in the Split hinterland was threatening houses in the area of Plano on Monday afternoon, the National Protection and Rescue Directorate reported on Monday afternoon.
