Farmers, disgruntled with the situation in agriculture who had been conducting a warning protest in Ferovec in Pozega-Slavonia County on Wednesday removed their tractors off the roads when they were invited to talks in the agriculture and finance ministries.

Dragutin Dukic, head of the farmers' associations coordinating body from Slavonia and Baranja said that late Tuesday evening farmers had received a call from the agriculture and finance ministries to attend a meeting on Thursday, most likely after the cabinet session ends.

Dukic said that farmers would not back down from their demands, particularly with regard to an urgent pay out of incentives as any delay in payment could threaten the season's sowing. The situation is bad and our demands are realistic, he said.

Farmers in other counties who had blocked roads with their tractors in support, also took their tractors off the road during the day as a sign of good will ahead of the talks.

"I trust that tomorrow's meeting will be held and will bring forth positive results otherwise we will take to the roads again in an even greater number", Dukic said.

Finance Minister Slavko Linic had said on Tuesday that he was prepared to talk to protesting farmers but that road blocks were unacceptable.
