Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania have signed a declaration on the tourism development of Danube region countries envisaging the continuation of cooperation between them as well as activities aimed at better promoting the Danube river region as a world tourist destination.

The declaration was signed at a conference in Belgrade on June 24-26, the Croatian Tourism Ministry said on Monday.

Among other things, the signatories highlighted the river's biodiversity and its impact on tourism development.

Ivo Mujo, a state secretary at the Croatian ministry, said all countries had the duty to preserve the joint Danube region through development, and that cooperation within this initiative would help develop good neighbourly relations, preserve the cultural heritage, develop the infrastructure and create new jobs.
