Croatian scientists have developed a drug called adepantin which could help in the treatment of incurable and lethal types of bacterial infections, Anton Depope of the Split-based science faculty, said on Thursday.

Scientists Damir Vukicevic and Davor Juretic developed the drug's formula last year. The medicine was tested on samples of E.coli, and testing on living organisms should now be performed in clinical conditions.

The adepantin kills bacteria without harming blood cell, Depope told press on Thursday.

The Croatian scientists, in cooperation with Professor Alessandro Tossi from Trieste, constructed a new type of peptide antibiotics which has shown a high efficiency against Escherichia coli.
