With just roughly ten days until the flame is lit in Vancouver, Canada, Croatia's athletes are ready and the Croatian PM Jadranka Kosor came to wish them well in Zagreb on Monday

‘This year in sports is off to an excellent start with the brilliant European handball silver medal, and I hope that you do just as well in Vancouver’, PM Kosor told the Croatian Olympians at the HT Education Center.

This time, Croatia has sent applications for 19 competitors. The accreditation for Alpine skiers Mateja Ferk and Danko Marinelli will depend on the final decision on a quota to be awarded during the re-allocation process to Croatia.

Ten of those 19 athletes will take part in Alpine skiing events, two will compete in biathlon and cross-country skiing, and Croatia will have a five-man team in bobsled representing.

One of the members of the bobsled team is Andras Haklitis, a leading Croatian hammer thrower. Haklitis has already participated in the Summer Olympic Games. Thus after Igor Boraska, he will be the second Croatian to compete at both the Summer and the Winter Olympiads.

Croatia's hopes for a medal rest with Ivica Kostelic, the best Croatian Alpine skier, who won the silver in the men's combined even in Turin, Italy, four years ago.
